Bus Rules
Bus Rules and Rider Policy
- The driver is in charge and has full discretion to assign seats at any time. All riders must follow their instructions and rules or be subject to disciplinary actions including but not limited to: assigned seat, suspension from riding, or being banned from the bus. There will be no credit for suspensions due to disciplinary problems.
- If the bus is equipped with seat belts, students must always wear seat belts, except when getting on or off the bus.
- Riders should not switch seats once seated on the bus unless directed to do so by the driver. Once you pick your seat, you must stay in it until you reach your stop.
- Do not distract the driver. While we encourage reporting any problems to the driver, please wait until it is safe to do so — such as at a stop while the bus is not moving.
- Absolutely no standing while the bus is in motion. This is a safety hazard and can distract the driver.
- No food or beverages are allowed on the bus. This includes gum and candy. Exceptions will be made for water bottles (containing only water) and children who have medical conditions that require them to eat at a certain time (e.g., diabetics). Anyone breaking this rule will be charged a $20 cleaning fee for the time and materials needed to clean the bus.
- No trading of any kind. This includes but is not limited to Pokémon cards, toys, food, clothes, etc. We are not responsible for any items that your child may lose due to failure to adhere to this rule. Trading has caused issues in the past with children arguing and fighting over trades they later regretted.
- Physical violence is prohibited on our buses. We will not punish someone acting in self-defense, but we do not condone any form of violence. Any fights will be stopped immediately if possible, and police may be called depending on the severity. Students found to have started a fight will be subject to disciplinary action.
- No bullying. Anyone caught bullying other students will be subject to disciplinary action.
- No use of profanity or inappropriate speech. This includes but is not limited to swearing, hate speech, sexual talk, or lewd jokes.
- Do not throw anything inside the bus. Throwing items around the bus is hazardous, distracts the driver, and risks injury or damage. Anyone throwing objects is subject to disciplinary action. Throwing something at the driver or windshield will result in immediate removal from the bus.
- No guest riders. Due to liability purposes, we cannot transport any student not registered by their parent for our services. Anyone other than registered and prepaid riders will be denied entry to the bus.
Fact
Students are about 50 times more likely to arrive at school alive if they take the bus than if they drive themselves or ride with friends-more than 20 times safer than if they ride with a parent or other adult. Simply put, school buses are built to reduce rider fatalities and injuries in a crash. So for most parents, the budget dollars saved by cutting school bus service are done so at the expense of their children’s
The school bus remains the safest form of surface transportation in the United States. It is far safer than the automobile, truck, public bus, or train. School buses are designed and manufactured specifically for the safety and protection of pupil passengers. Manufacturers must conform to a host of federal standards and certify that each school bus meets all federal and state standards.
